About us

About Adviser Radar

Adviser Radar is a free-to-use UK comparison platform that helps businesses find, research and compare R&D tax advisers using clear and consistently presented information.

It brings adviser profile information together in one place, helping businesses that undertake research and development (R&D) activities, and that may potentially qualify for R&D tax reliefs, carry out more informed initial checks before deciding which advisers they wish to contact.

Adviser Radar aims to include all R&D tax advisers operating in the UK, including UK-based accountants offering R&D as a distinct service. Advisers not appearing on the site can request to be listed on the same terms as other firms, completely free of charge.

Adviser Radar does not recommend or endorse individual firms. Its profiles and assessments are intended to support initial research and help businesses produce a shortlist of advisers to contact, but should not replace a business's own checks or professional advice.

How Adviser Radar is funded

Adviser Radar is privately owned and commercially funded by optional adviser subscriptions. Advisers may pay for Enhanced Profile features that allow them to provide additional information to help inform users and improve the presentation of their profiles.

Payment cannot alter a firm's Radar Assessment, remove relevant public findings or improve its position in search results. No adviser can pay to influence the assessment methodology.

Any advisers listed on the site can report factual errors and provide supporting evidence for Adviser Radar's review, and amendments will be made where agreed as necessary.

Jonathan Yeomans, founder of Adviser Radar

Adviser Radar was founded by Jonathan Yeomans MSc ATT, a former HMRC Senior Tax Inspector, National Technical Risk Lead and HMRC Compliance Project Board member, who spent 32 years with HMRC and its predecessor, the Inland Revenue.

Jonathan has worked alongside the R&D tax relief scheme since its introduction in 2000 and undertook some of HMRC's early enquiries into R&D tax claims. His HMRC career included contributing to the rewriting of sections of the Corporate Intangibles Research and Development (CIRD) manual, leading the national company technical risk network, directing compliance projects across Corporate Intangibles, R&D tax reliefs and other complex high-risk areas, and identifying and categorising the hallmarks and warning signs associated with poor-quality tax agent behaviour.

Since leaving HMRC, Jonathan has specialised in R&D tax relief and in providing support for businesses facing HMRC R&D enquiries. Through his work with businesses facing R&D enquiries, he repeatedly encountered companies whose original adviser had stopped responding, provided inadequate support or ceased trading. A recurring question from those companies left without the support of a reliable R&D tax adviser was how those businesses could identify and compare alternative advisers.

Adviser Radar was created in response to that problem. You can read more about its purpose on our mission page.

Jonathan's experience informs the design of the Radar Assessment. The assessment draws on selected publicly available information. You can read more about the Radar Assessment in our FAQs.

Professional roles

Jonathan is a trustee and Council member of the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and serves on the Joint Professional Standards Committee operated by the ATT and the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT).

These are professional body roles held in a personal capacity. Neither the ATT nor the CIOT has any ownership of, involvement in or influence over Adviser Radar, and nothing on this platform represents the views of either organisation.

Ownership and other interests

Adviser Radar Ltd, company number 17217190, operates this platform. Adviser Radar Ltd is owned by Avalon Tax Ltd. Avalon Tax provides HMRC R&D enquiry support services only and does not prepare or submit R&D tax claims. As a result, Avalon Tax is not listed on this site.

Jonathan also owns RD Reliance Ltd, a separate company that prepares R&D tax claims. RD Reliance appears on Adviser Radar and is treated in exactly the same way as other firms. It is assessed under the same Radar Assessment methodology, with no special or preferential treatment and no influence over its result. It holds no special placement in search results. If that company chooses to hold an Enhanced Profile, it does so on the same terms as any other firm.
